Note from the Editor in Chief
Prof. Alex Boulton
Dear ReCALL readers,As we now only have one editorial per year, there are many things to pack in here. First, as announced last year, ReCALL went completely open access on 1st January 2024 – all papers published since then are entirely free to read. As planned, no authors have needed to pay their own APCs (article processing charges), with fees being covered by transformative agreements, authors’ institutions or a waiver agreement. Our policy is science first – financial considerations should never be a barrier to good research publications. It is still early days, though, to see if policy changes have impacted submissions in any substantial way.

Also in the editorial:

  • New Co-Editor and Associate Editor: Pleased to announce that Pascual Pérez-Paredes will join me as co-Editor of ReCALL from January 1st, 2025, ensuring a smooth transition and continued excellence for the journal, alongside new Associate Editor Nina Vyatkina.
  • ReCALL‘s Impact Factor: The 2023 Impact Factor for ReCALL increased to 4.6.
  • ReCALL Best Paper Prize: Oliver James Ballance received the Best Paper Prize for his work on sampling and randomization in CALL research.
  • Cambridge University Press Cybersecurity Incident: CUP experienced a cybersecurity incident in June 2024, but quickly resolved the issue with minimal impact on ReCALL publications.
  • Upcoming Special IssuesReCALL will feature special issues on Migrants’ and refugees’ digital literacies (2025) and Artificial intelligence and CALL (2027).
  • GenAI and Academic PublishingReCALL has updated its policy on GenAI use, emphasizing transparency and author responsibility for all aspects of their research.
  • Acknowledgements: Thank you, reviewers!

Happy reading!
